Hi ursulasmit!
We appreciate your participation, though we need to let you know that your EOS 4000D appears to be a model not supported by our team here at Canon USA. While the community is welcome to chime in, the Canon Community Forum is hosted and moderated within the United States by Canon USA. We can only support Canon products manufactured for and used within the US market.

Are you located inside the U.S. or Canada there is NO such camera as the EOS 4000D in the U.S. or Canada. There is however the EOS Rebel T100. The camera you're looking at is a Gray Market camera there will be NO WARRANTY. If you're inside the U.S. or Canada stick with Canon Authorized Dealers. B&H Photo NYC & Adorama are Canon Authorized Dealers. Amazon Marketplace IS NOT a good place to purchase cameras. Unless it says SOLD and Shipped by Amazon. Then it IS NOT Gray Market. Does the photography class require a DSLR camera or can a mirrorless camera be used instead. I would suggest going with an EOS R series mirrorless camera. DSLR cameras are quickly being replaced by mirrorless cameras. All production has moved to EOS R series cameras and RF Mount lenses. EF, EF-S & EF-M lenses are no longer being developed. Stayaway from the EOS M series it has been discontinued. Even though EOS M was a mirrorless camera lineup. It was replaced by EOS R series APS-C cameras.

Hi.

If you knew your camera's the EOS T100 Rebel is the same as the EOS 4000D.

Hi Ursula and welcome to the forum:

While the 4000D and T100 are physically the same, it's actually a matter of branding and availability of service and support that both Demetrius and Ron (the moderator) are getting at.

For marketing and support purposes, Canon breaks the globe into sectors.  In the USA and Canada (and perhaps Mexico - not sure), cameras of that type sold and supported there are labelled T100, so if you have any kind of issue it could be covered.  If, on the other hand, the camera is branded 4000D, it is intended for the European markets, while in Asia and Oceania it is called the 3000D.   Those bodies, while identical physically, would not necessarily be supported in the USA.

It may seem pedantic, but it won't feel like that if you can't get service or support for them.

All that said, from a functional point of view, the 4000D is a perfectly functional camera for learning on.  Absolutely, it does not have higher end features of other, more expensive models but it has the basics.  If in doubt, I would suggest talking to the tutors for the photography course you are going to attend.

Always be polite.  The T100 and 4000D camera 18-55mm lens kits do not include the same lens.

I'm sorry if I was rude. I just wanted a  yes or no. Instead I got all these long essays bout cameras

Your original post has no content, only a subject line.

My response would be just as brief, “Yes.”  But, that response is neither helpful or informative.  Almost any camera can be used for most purposes.  You only need a high performance camera if your shooting conditions require it.

All this being said, the 4000D should work fine in most situations. "School Photography" is a pretty big category.

Only concern for “school photography” would be that the camera might have no centre connection on the hotshoe so it can’t trigger school studio strobes. This was the case for early models of 4000D / Rebel T100 /  2000D / Rebel T7 / 250D /  Rebel SL3 L but some time after announcement the centre pin was added back to some of these three models.
