Can't update firmware on EOS R50

Brandonanchor

I've tried everything to get the firmware to update from 1.4 to 1.5.  I've used the Android phone app method. I've tried connecting the EOS web utility.  I've put the file on the SD card.  I've had at least 30 chats with your AI tool and followed every step but nothing works.  This camera is only 7 months old.

The EOS utility tool doesn't seem to do anything and the instructions your AI bot gives aren't even close to representing what's actually available in the tool so I really can't make any progress there at all.

Both the Android and SD card method ultimately end up with the same result, it takes me to the point where I can confirm I want to proceed with the update but the option to push OK is always greyed out.Screenshot 2026-07-30 123401.png

Just so you know the SD card has plenty of space with only a handful of photos on it.  The battery is an official Canon battery that is 100% charged.

Please help!

Rotate the multifunction dial to highlight "OK" and then select it with the "Set" button and you should be good to go.

@Brandonanchor,

By now you were probably able to use the main dial or the quick control dial on the back of the camera to move focus from cancel to ok and then press the set button to execute.

Once You've recovered from the face palm, 🤦 please reply back and let us know all is well with v1.5 now.

We've all been there. Don't beat yourself up over it.  🤣

Yup.  Been there, done that and have the palmprint to prove it.

I don't see a problem either it should go as soon as you select the "OK"

Free tip of the day, don't trust Ai for how to's. Extra free tip, it's best to use a just formatted and empty full size SD. Put just the FW update on it.
