, err 99 message  shutter sounds like it opens but not closing.

Error 99 is a general error code displayed when the camera knows something is not working properly, but not exactly what.  The error is typically associated with lens communication or shutter issues.

1. Remove the lens, battery and memory cards from the camera, then let the camera sit for about 20 minutes.
2. Clean the contacts on the lens and camera body using a soft microfiber cleaning cloth.
3. Reinstall just the battery and power the camera on.

Does the error still appear?  If not, reinstall the lens.

Does the error appear with the lens attached?

Thanks I did all of that, canon sent me a shipping label and they already have the camera now.
