[BUG] EOS R5 Mark II Firmware 1.3.0 - Touch & Drag AF Locks Out All Controls (Requires Battery Pull)

Hello Canon Community,

I am reporting a critical software lockup introduced in Firmware Version 1.3.0 on the EOS R5 Mark II. This issue is already being reported by multiple users in global user groups, as documented in this Facebook thread.

The Bug:

While looking through the EVF and using Touch & Drag AF on the LCD screen, all physical controls instantly lock out.

Key Symptoms:

  • EVF stays alive: The live image does not freeze; the video feed continues to display normally in real time.

  • Control Lockout: The shutter button will not fire, and all dials/buttons/touch screen completely stop responding.

  • Power Switch Overridden: Flipping the switch to "OFF" does absolutely nothing. The camera stays running.

  • Forced Battery Pull: The only way to reset the camera and regain functionality is to physically remove the battery.

Environment:

  • Firmware: v1.3.0 (Happens across all shooting modes, though I regularly encounter it in P Mode).

  • Trigger: repointing the AF box via the touch screen while looking through the viewfinder.

The touch-priority software is failing to hand control back to the physical buttons. Hoping the forum moderators can flag this to the engineering team for an urgent firmware patch!

Ravox: here is the answer I received from the Technical team:

I have received a response from our engineering team.
They state they have been able to replicate the issue and have escalated this concern to headquarters for further investigation. We hope that a firmware update becomes available soon to correct this issue, and we recommend checking the product support page for the camera for updates.
