60D Budget Upgrade Recommendations

Ovacheerdad

Hello all its me again. I have an older 60D that I use right now. My daughter just started cheer comps and I'm looking to start taking good pictures. After using it this weekend the 60D just isn't cutting it with the max iso of 6400 in such low light. I'm looking for a good budget suggestion for a newer body that will work with the 70-200 2.8 and the 24-105 2.8 lenses. I've read that an R7 would be good? I would like to have a body that is more geared towards sports shooting.

Greetings,

In order for us to provide meaningful recommendations, we need an actual budget?

The R7 is very good for sports, and will work well with the lenses you mentioned (you will need the Canon EF to RF adapter).  If you've researched this camera a bit and like the features, you will not be disappointed.  If you want to stick to APS-C, this might be the best of the current lineup for sports.

However, if you are thinking of possibly moving to full frame there may be better options out there.  Like Rick mentioned, if you give us your budget we might be able to suggest something better.

I would like to stay around or under $1500

The other best option in that price range is the R8, which is full frame.  They are both excellent cameras.  The R7 will give you more reach on your lenses due to the crop sensor.  The R8 will give you the benefits of a full frame sensor.

Have you used the Camera Decision web site?  It's an excellent tool for comparing all of the features side by side on these two models.  I suggest that you check that out to see which might be a better fit.

If you can squeeze a bit more out of your budget the R6MkII is available for $1999. When you talk about being able to push the ISO this camera performs great in those conditions. Your EF lenses will adapt well with the standard Canon EF to RF adapter.

Keep an eye on the Canon Refurbished Marketplace because the R6 MkII comes in just a bit over your budget. The Notify me when available prompt works great. Just know that if you get a notification and miss the item you need to set up the notification again.

I have been looking at the R7 and 8. Also would like to have a new body before cheer is over but wondering if saving for the R6Mii would be better. I could pickup a 5DM3 for 400 bucks local right now. I know its not a new R series but would be way better than the 60D currently? Ill check out that website today.

Good info, but one additional note for Ovacheerdad...

The notify me does work great... but you have to move fast on refurbs.  When I got my R8 as a refurb two years ago, it wasn't available in the morning, two hours later I got the email and jumped on it.  By afternoon it was no longer available.  So occasionally it's only one item that they have.  If you wait to consider, someone else might grab it.  Not safe until it is in your cart.
