They have this lens and I don't have the camera knowledge to know which polarizing filter is compatible with their lens, they have been wanting one and I thought it would be the perfect little gift

hoping I can order it from places like amazon

Both the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM - https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/ef-24-105mm-f-4l-is-ii-usm?type=New

and the EF 24-105mm f/4 L is USM use a 77 mm filter. I would post a link with the information for you but it is to B&H and it's against policy to post that link.

It's OK to post a screenshot to facilitate the discussion.

I wish I knew this a while back.  There have been a handful of times that I wished I could post a link for others.

Thank you, John!

"hoping I can order it from places like amazon"

I would caution you about buying photographic gear from Amazon. Even in their commercials they claim 60 or 70% of the sales are from their marketplace suppliers and not Amazon itself. Now whether this matters or not depends on that seller. That is why someone suggested B&H but there are others like Adorama, Roberts, and many more even a local like Best Buy or Cosco might have a 77mm polarizer. It is a very common size and filter.

So if you go Amazon read the fine print as they say to make sure you are buying from a known good photography store. Some sellers on Amazon sell pure junk that isn't worth the cost of shipping even if you have Prime!

I agree with the others.  Only purchase camera gear and accessories from a reputable camera dealer.

Beware and avoid the online marketplaces like Amazon, Best Buy, and others.  Read the fine print in the sales agreements.

If your selected retailer is out of stock, then an alternative vendor can be automatically selected for you.  They would prefer to close a sale than cancel one.

BTW, a CPL filter can impair a Phase Detect AF system, like Dual Pixel AF used in Canon cameras. I hardly use them. I only occasionally use them for shooting landscapes from a tripod.  I first focus without the filter, disable AF, mount the filter, and then take the shot.
