SInce you have a Sigma 150-600mm super zoom do you have an EF camera? If so, you need to try it on that EF camera to make sure the lens is in good nick. If it doesn't you need to send ito Sigma for service and perhaps a FW upgrade. SIgma has issued firmware updates for several versions of the Sigma 150-600mm lenses Sports/Contemporary.  The new FW will improve performance on mirrorless cameras.

@Adey stick with the Canon brand adapter. 3rd Party Mount adapters cause all sorts of problems.

Hello Adey,

Since you are using a Canon adapter I would lean towards the lens not having the current firmware version. The R7 had some challenges with that specific lens and it was resolved with a firmware update. Personally I owned several Sigma lenses and had challenges on both my R bodies and the firmware update resolved them all. All you need is the Sigma dock and application, the updates are fairly simple.

The dock is pretty inexpensive and worth it to get your lens corrected. I have traded the last of my Sigma lenses and have a dock. If you are in the states and want it shoot me a DM and I will be more than happy to send it your way at no cost..... it's just collecting dust.

What exactly does “refuses to work mean?

The lens needs to have the latest firmware. Use the Sigma Dock to update the lens. I do not recommend using the electronic shutter with the H+ frame rate.

The lens was designed at a time when the fastest frame rates were 12 fps, or so. If you have experience with the lens, then you should be aware of the focus distance limiter switch.

I don’t recommend using the Eye Tracking feature nor subject recognition.  I do recommend using Whole Area Tracking, if that’s what it’s called in the R7.
