RF 100-500mm image issues

Nick117

Hi all, I recently bought a 100 to 500mm for my R3, been loving it 90% of the time. Just recently, I noticed these lines appearing within the images. Inside the Red boxes. It also appears in video mode. They don't appear to show up from any other lens i have. So it seems to be an isolated issue with the lens. I don't suppose if anyone has had this issue. Or any ideas of what may be causing it. Many Thanks Screenshot 2025-08-26 at 12.09.47.pngScreenshot 2025-08-26 at 12.10.14.pngScreenshot 2025-08-26 at 12.41.50.pngScreenshot 2025-08-26 at 12.42.03.png

Greetings,

Was this lens purchased new?

I see some banding at the top of of the first image.  The lines are pronounced in the beach photo with the bird and the crop below.  My 100- 500 is sharp from the top to the bottom of the frame.  I'd say to take a close look at your sensor but if it's only happening with this lens then it's not the body.

I would carry that a bit further and say it is the sensor. At least that is where I would focus m y investigation. Does the same irregularities show up with this lens at the 100mm side? Keep in mind as FL magnification increases so do faults and at the very same rate.

I have seen it from other's 100-500 at dpreview. Can't find the thread right now.

No filter?

I used to see something similar with my 6D and a Sigma 150-600mm. Are you using any type of filter?

Are you using a tripod with lens IS enabled?

It was only visible when I cropped in pretty far,
