I just recieved a brand new Canon RF 70-200 2.8 from Adorama.
When inspecting the front element I noticed what seemed to be a dust particle out of the box.
Went outside in direct sunlight and it seems to be a tiny scratch or knick on the inner lens element.
I'm assuming this would greatly impact the photos and on a lens of this quality/price I wouldn't expect this.
It's hard to get a picture of it and didn't know what my next steps are with this.
Below is a link to the pictures I tried to get of it:

Thanks!

While you can certainly try and get your money back, it almost certainly will not affect image quality.

I took it in the backyard to test it and you are correct. I didn't notice anything in the area where the small scratch is.
If it wasn't for a sporting event I have to shoot this weekend I would probably send it back. No reason to spend $2600 on some glass and it show up with a scratch on the inner element.

Actually, the effects are not usually localized, generally it manifests as a loss of contrast because of the light scattering.

Call Helen Oster at Adorama and explain the story. I am sure she will send you another one without the scratch which I, too, believe won't effect the IQ. It is too small to effect contrast. You would need several nicks like that. It is the fact it is a very expensive lens and needs to be perfect like a very expensive lens.

Thanks, I will do that.
I agree it won't affect the IQ but this also isn't some $500 piece of glass.
