MF on 16-35 2.8 L USM II after the infinity mark

Hello there,

I have a question regarding the MF procedure on this type of lens.

It can become uncalibated if we turn the focus ring (in MF mode) after the infinity mark ?

I'm not totally sure what you're asking, but...

Canon lenses allow focus slightly past infinity, rumor has it for two reasons: 1) to allow room so that autofocus doesn't slam up against the stops when searching for focus of distant objects, and 2) to allow for thermal expansion.

So your lens is suppose to go past the infinity mark a little bit, and it won't uncalibrate it.  If you're focusing on distant objects go to the white line right before the infinity symbol.

I'll try to be more explicit .

When we are on MF mode and use the focus ring , there is a chance to rotate the ring more than the distance scale show us (infinite or the other scale end) .So , my question was , the lens can be damaged (uncalibrated) if we turn the focus ring more than the distance scale show us ?

No, it won't.  It's designed to do that, for the reasons I stated above.
