I'm about to be the lucky owner of a 100-500L, it seems very redundant to keep the 100-400, but I've loved that lens and wonder if I'll miss the option of having a more compact telephoto lens. I managed to also snag the 800 f11 for only $400 and it's plenty fun, though I'm wondering if it would be better to sell it and replace it with a 1.4x teleconverter for the 100-500 which would translate to 700mm f/10 and retain weather sealing. My favorite use cases are wildlife photography from a kayak and hiking.
