The front of the lens ( where the filter mounts ) rocks back and forth quite a bit. So much so that it makes noise while just handling the camera. If you grab around the filter ring with your thumb and forefinger and rock your fingers in opposite directions, it moves probably 1/16. Don't think it's normal but would appreciate feedback.Thanks....

As you would expect from such an inexpensive lens, build quality is adequate rather than outstanding. Despite its flaws, which are pretty common in 18-55mm designs, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is a pretty decent performer.
Now the question is how much play there is? Does it seem to hurt you photos? If not forget it.

My 18-55 STM also has approx 1/16" play and I would say it's totally normal. Even my 24-105L has some play but it is only about 1/32".

To me there's a lot. It does function fine though. Pics look fine. Thanks for the help.
