EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM rear lens element moves

Hello everyone -

I recently purchased a used Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM. The rear lens element moves. I first noticed it before I put it on the camera. It’s kind of like a rattle. Is this common with this lens? I’ve never owned a lens that did this.
Thank you - Steve

Steve,

I just check my 10-18 IS STM and:

  1. The rear element moves "in and out" as the lens is zoomed.  Other than that movement, it appears to be secure and not move side to side or otherwise.
  2. There is a slight "rattle" when the lens is shaken. My guess is this is because of the lens has IS (image stabilization) and that sort of rattle is not uncommon for IS lenses.

Hope the above helps!

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.
