Greetings ,

As you can see we both started asking the same questions.  This condition is not a normal occurrence and this lens does appear to have seen some neglect or abuse.

If returning the lens is an option I would pursue that.  If not, the lens can likely be repaired by Canon.  Start by registering the lens in your My Canon account.  From there, you can initiate a repair request.

No, not ANY camera shop. Some have repair facilities, others could recommend repair services or ship it out for you. Parts availability is a question. You ought to find out if Sigma has a repair service, like Canon does for their products. They could quote you on cost. The lens may or may not be worth repairing, versus buying another one from a good used equipment dealer, like KEH.com, MPB.com, or UsedPhotoPro.com. They give warranties.

Well this is odd.No matter how close i look at those contacts, none seem to be bent.
Are you referring to the dark strips across the middle group of contacts?Because that's relatively normal. To be sure, clean them with a little alcohol

Greetings,

What camera and what lens are you using?

None of my bodies or lenses I've ever owned had trough like indentions like the contacts in your photo.  The next question I'll ask is are you using some type of adapter or TC on this lens currently or previously?  If so, which?  You'd have to put a lot of pressure on a lens contact to dent it like that
