I'm new here. I have a Canon T3i. Two kit lenses came with it in a bundle...18-55mm, 55-250mm. I am considering getting the Canon 18-200mm. Would the Canon 18-200mm be a good choice to replace both lenses, or are there better choices to replace them with and keep the 18-200mm also?

Hey Bob. I know we are not suppose to advertise or promote 3rd party products, but I'd seen many instances of guys mentioning the names of other brands of gear they or may like to have. Since nothing was said about that, I assumed that was Ok. I got hit for asking where someone sold their gear, because I'm looking to sell my un-needed Canon gear. I'm replacing that sold Canon items with NEW Canon lens. I've stated many times I'm a loyal Canon customer and have been for over 30 yrs. Right now I have over 10 products registered on my Canon Acc on the Canon Website.. So I got hit for asking where to sell my Canon gear, so I can buy more Canon gear...Go Figure?????

Hey, I do hope you are getting over the cancer episode. We are both 68 and have certain medical restrictions. I have been retired for over 12 years now. I understand 68 years old
I'm fine now Biggs my operation was a success. All the Cancer was removed from my liver, they caught it very early. Now all I have to do is build back my stenght and get checkups every 3 months. I've fine to do my photography, I just give out of energy sometimes. We're fine, I just might not go as fast on something as you may like me to. But I'm ready to continue.
I will be getting into RAW Real soon, in a day or so. I'm going to go out today and take some shots.
I understand about the privacy issue and with kids, not a problem. The couple I met the other day was a guy and gal and they asked me to take their pic. We had a long conversation and they gave me there number, they're into businesses I may use. Thanks for the heads up about uploading my pics. I will try it later after I return from taking my pics today. There a few pics I'd like you and Bob to see and let me know what's wrong, or what I did wrong.

"There a few pics I'd like you and Bob to see ..."
Can't wait to see how you have progressed. Actually we need samples before we can tell you how one of us would have done it. That is one reason I have not mentioned exact settings with you. Because I don't know where you are. In class I have photos and prints and we talk them through.
Remember way, way back I suggested you shoot and shoot a lot? Plus remember your settings? This is a must. It is mandatory. If you can not commit them to menory, you are going to have a real rought times of it. That's just the nature of the game.

"biggs,
in a thread that purportedly, is about the 18-200mm lens, I posted what is, perhaps, the ONLY defense of this lens."
Welcome,
I am glad you decided to join this discussion. Like it does sometimes, it has morphed into a whole new topic. Not really very unusual or uncommon.
However, if you post a review of a product, a lens in this case. that you really like and think is good, don't I have the same right to post my thoughts of it? Although mine was negative?
In a fairness statement as I would not even consider using, let alone buying, a Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens, I would not do so even if it were an "L" version. Reason? The zoom range is too long to make a decent lens.
I am totally fine with you using it and enjoying it. More power to ya! But my opinion is different.
Don't wear your feelings on your shirt sleeve. I hope you stick around and join in.

Hey Biggs I got an Idea. If you are willing to send me your email addy, I can let you see any and all the pics I've took. I upload alot of my pics to my hotmail "oneDrive" cloud account. i can only send 24mb in an email which is only about 5 pics, cause they're so big....and they're jpeg.
04-07-2015 07:17 PM
BTW.....If we chat through our personal addy's we can say what we want. We don't have to worry about violating the rules.
You know I retired from the auto company in 1995, and moved south. I got my 1st DSLR less than a yr ago. I've always liked photography since I was a kid, and have had Canon Cameras and Camcorders for over 30 yrs. My Rebel was my 1st DSLR. If you like I can give you one of my addy's, I have several, and one addy is a throwaway, so does'nt matter if I leave it here. If you don't want to put your addy on site here, because you don't want anyone to get it, here's one of mine

The better way is to reduce the size to the limits on this site and u/l them here. That way you will get way more opinions, critique and suggestions. They very charm of and reason for a forum.
Actually I am trying to push you to get that post editor (PSE) and start to learn how to use it. Cropping and size reduction are basic concepts to do.
I am going to throw out another suggestion. It is Lightroom. LR is not as robust post editor as PSE but very capable at what it does do. It is more of a data base so you can catalog your photos. PSE does this, too, but LR is the professional version. It is the basice editor I use. It is the editor 99.5%, if not 99.9%, of all professional photogrphers and studios use.
I and many others here will be able to assist you better with LR than PSE.
Once it is set up almost everything is automatic. It will require very limited input from you. You will never notice RAW conversion. It adds your water mark automatically, something you should consider soon. It just doesn't have the extreme editing that PS or PSE has. Like changing a background or changing a person's hair color or eye color, etc.
Check out Lightroom.

Ok, I will check on it. I've seen it where I saw PSE sold. Can't promise how soon I will get either. I will see what I can do with the canon software first. Hopefully they will do till I get LR or PSE. I'll try to upload a few pics here on the site. My pics are the largest that can be set in jpeg (+L). in mt camera. I'm thinking of using a smaller size like M maybe. Smaller size holds more pics but my card size was never a problem. I use 16GB SanDisk Extreme and Extreme plus. I just did'nt like the smaller size to review on my Pc, I like the pics to fill my whole Pc screen.. I've read somewhere that the cards I use might be overkill with my camera. Far as others giving me help with my pics, I have'nt seen but a few others come to this post, other than you and Bob. But I suppose guys do look in from time to time.
You say you use lightroom? Why would you use that since you said you have the full Adobe Photoshop software? Do you need both????

Where would I look for that icon that looks like a moon in a mountain??? In my settings??? I'm still trying to get the hang of all the different features for this site. like rich text, HTML, preview. Changing colors of type, etc. Good as I am with Pc's, I'm lousey when it comes to email use. I never even used office, never had the need.
