75-300mm III UMS focus problem

Suhail

Hi, I have just got EF 75-300mm III UMS lens. While keeping it on AF when I zoom it in and take a shot and try to zoom it out, it doesn't get back 100%. A small portion of inside lens locks at some point, while again I have to switch it to MF and set the focus ring manually. Only then it zooms out 100%. Is my lens faulty?

Hi Suhail!

Thanks for posting.

What you are experiencing is normal.  When the focus is adjusted by either yourself or the camera, the front of the lens will extend and retract some.  This is seperate from the zoom.  The lens can still be fully zoomed out at 75mm, even though the front is extended some.

This is an entry level consumer lens. It will show some characteristics that do not show up in the higher end pro lenses.

This is a lens for the mass market and is designed as such. It must be affordable for this group. And for this intended purpose, it works fairly well.
