R5 with 70-200 f2.8L IS USM (Gen II) "motor won't shut off"

The motor on my trusty 20yr old 70-200L won't shut off. Only stops if I disable IS. Uses up battery. Online bot suggests cleaning contacts, etc.

Anybody have similar issue? Resolved? Just trying to avoid downtime sending to lens MD.

Thanks

On mirrorless cameras the AF motor and IS runs all the time. You can Disable Continuous AF/ Preview AF and this will stop.

Yes, I did forget to mention that my camera is an R5. I do understand this may be a factor with an older lens.

Thank you. I do recall that setting in Menus. Didn't realize how that would affect EF lenses. I do use double back button AF, so the shutter button is no longer used for AF.

Cheers Demetrius. 💪

The shutter button can still be used to activate AF as long as Continuous AF is disabled.
