Why is my mx722 printer telling me to check doc in adf when I try to copy from the scan

When i try to copy from the scan my canon mx722 printer tells me to check the ADF. I have never used the ADF amd print and copy using the bottom tray only. Nothing is jammed in there. Please help.

What is the exact wording of the error that you are getting?

Examples could be "Document in ADF" or "Cannot Scan from ADF".
