Printer moving cartridge by itself

Recently, my printer (pixma mx472) has been returning the ink cartridges by itself non stop, as well as always saying "cover open". This has made it extremely difficult to scan or print things, if I'm even lucky enough to get it to do so!! I'm tired of making trips to print and ship centers to get things done, what can I do to fix this??

Greetings,

Great description.  "returning the ink cartridges by itself non stop"  What does this mean exactly?

The cover open is a sensor error.  Lots of plastic, which depending on conditions has a tendancy to deform and warp over time.  If something doesn't align it could cause a sensor to report incorrectly.

The printer itself is only 3 yrs old.  Would be costly to repair if that's even possible.  There is no magic fix for either issue.

You can contact support 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) , but I'd be thinking about a replacement if it were me.
