I got this error code with Magenta as well. I removed each cartridge left to right then replaced cartridges with original cartridges. It worked. 🙂

I know this topic has been up here a long time. Just wanted to add my experience.  I have a Canon iP7250 InkJet - bought several years ago, but only gets used sporadically, but never had any real issues with it.

Been using compatible ink cartridges for years, without any problems, but yesterday and today, getting error code 1660 on the *Magenta* ink - just like a lot of other people.

I tried all the suggestions listed here - but the only one that worked for me was gently lifting the contact pins in the printer - and when I say gently - I mean barely touching them with tweezers. Reseated the cartridge and it's now working again.

It may not be working tomorrow, but for now it's printing.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

You would be better off watching for a SALE on the Canon MX920 Pixma printer. It has many useful functions and retails for $99.99 but you can find it on sale for $49.99.

I have the same problem, Also the magenta cartridge. But for obvious reasons.
Three pins were broken due to dried ink in the narrow pin slots. So I have to change the contact block. Found a complete carriage on eBay.
My advice is to clean the pins for ink using a printhead unclogging solution. (A very thin solution of ammonia in demineralised water, 2 - 3 drops in a deciliter of water)
The following applies to a Pixma iP7250, but can be applied to others as well.
1: Open the lid to move the print carriage to cartridge change position. Open the CD printing lid.
2: Switch off printer, remove power cord.
3: Remove all cartridges.
4: Place a strip of absorbent material, like paper kitchen towel, on the rail just under the pins.
5: By hand, gently move the carriage over the absorbent. BE CAREFUL
6: Now rinse the pins and slots a number of times, using a small syringe. Dry the pins and contact block.
7: Make sure the pins are un-clogged: gently press down and release. If not, repeat step 6.
8: Let air dry.
9: Replace the cartridges, close the lids, power up the printer and you are good to go.
Hope this can help in preventing broken or stuck pins.

I found the solution. Don't call technical support they will just tell you to take it to a computer repair place or purchase a new printer. Best thing to do is unplug the printer. Open the lid up & unscrew the screws on the sides. Use a tiny screw driver to go along the edge to open the tabs on the side up but be gentle. Take the side covers off the Left side of the printer. Then plug the printer back in to get the cartridge's to move. Then unplug it again. Take the white reals on the left side together & roll the top  real till you hear the pop. Remove the cartridge with a cannon cartridge & turn on the printer. This will correct the error & run like new. If you want to put the cover back on you can or leave it unscrewed & locked to fix again later.
