Pixma Gm 6050 have to have both ink cartriges inserted for the Printer to work ?

Yes. Both cartridges must be installed.  The printer will not function with a single cartridge.

In order to give you the right information, we need to know exactly which printer model you're using.  We checked just about everywhere and we couldn't find a printer with the model number you mentioned, so would you mind double-checking that?  The model number should appear somewhere on the top or the front of your printer.
