This printer was working great until a couple days ago when the black started to fade, and now it doesn't print black at all. I've tried all the cleaning and deep cleaning steps and nothing works. Please help!

Hi tempeashers,
Performing a system cleaning should resolve this issue. To do this, please follow these steps:

2. Repeatedly press the right arrow button to select Maintenance and press the OK
3. Press the right arrow button to select Ink Flush and then press the OK button
4. Choose All Colors, Color or BK and press OK
5. Check the displayed message and press OK button
6. Select Yes and then press OK button
7. Select Yes and then press OK button
This procesdure is also covered in the manual:

Did you get this issue resolved? The same thing has happened to me and I am getting the same error when trying to perform the ink flush

No, it did not resolve for me. The only way I can print black is to change the paper to High-Resolution paper. This is very disappointing and I will NEVER buy Canon again.

I ran the cleaning function, followed by a deep cleaning, and then the black ink came back. I don't print often, not sure if that's the reason but for now this fix is helping

I am having the same trouble. The only way to get the black to print is to do a deep clean and then it only works for about 2 pages. Is there any way to correct this?

Some sources say to perform an ink flush, for me that didn't work because the printer wouldn't do it - it was just stuck in whatever mode it was in. But try that first. If it won't do the ink flush, move on to a basic cleaning, following by one or two cycles of deep cleaning. Try printing after each step and see what happens. Sometimes it starts working again after a basic clean, sometimes it needs one cycle of deep clean, sometimes two. Hope this works for you!
