Pixma 3540 4*6 photo light on, printer frozen

I saw someone post this same issue with a different model printer.

Plug in printer, and photo paper light comes on - whether there is paper in the paper tray or not.

Hit power button - get power light but printer is frozen.

Have tried reset.

Have tried printing test page - no success.

Have tried pulling out the power plug, pressing power button 5 times, leaving 60 seconds then plugging in again.  No success.

Does anyone have a solution to this?
