PIXMA iP1700 printer...connect to a MacBook Air?

I recently purchased a MacBook Air. I cannot figure out how to get my computer to recognize my printer. When I go to the Canon page, it says it is "detected', but it does not show up when I try to print. Any ideas?

What version of OSX is installed on your computer?

Please note, the iP1700 is only compatible with OSX v10.7 and earlier.
