My PIXMA TS9020 (2018) is giving me an error message "Ink absorber is almost full".  Can I buy replacement parts and replace it? I dearly love this printer. How much longer do I have with it?

Hi,

While there are replacement absorber pads, a service tool is need to reset the waste ink absorber counter. The Service Tool is only available to authorized service technicians. You can try pressing okay to clear the message but once the absorber is full, the error will no longer clear.

If the printer is in it's 1 year warranty, I recommend reaching out to Canon support for your warranty options. You will need to register your Canon gear HERE to access additional support options.

If the printer is out of warranty, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.

This is profoundly disappointing to have to discard an otherwise good working printer. planned obsolescence. i am grieving.

Here is a website where you can purchase new absorber pads.  https://prinber.com/inkjet-parts/waste-ink-pad/canon-ink-absorber/  Once you have the new pads, follow one of the many youtube videos on replacing the absorber pads.  Finally, follow the steps below to reset the printer counter.  Good luck!!!

When you get this on a pixma mx700 (probably also on other models) you can simply override it for a while by pressing "OK". Eventually (after a looong time) the printer will give you an "error 5B00" and get completely stuck. Then you look for instructions on the web on how to do a reset. Then it works again. This worked for me:

Try this: With the power OFF on the printer,

1: press and hold the RESET (or RESUME, perhaps) button (to the right side of the printer's controls/buttons, if I have this right for your model), and at the same time, also press and hold the POWER button too.

2: after a second, release the RESET (or RESUME) button but keep holding down the POWER button...

3: while still holding the POWER button, press and release the RESET (or RESUME) button, two times.

4: Then, after a moment, release the POWER button too, and wait for about 10 seconds or longer for the printer to turn ON and initialize.

5: the printer should now show 'SERVICE MODE' on the LED screen.

6: Press the RESET (or RESUME) button four times, then press the Power button once, to confirm 'Reset Counter Absorber' as an action.

7: After which, if that's what you just got done, you press POWER again to turn OFF the printer.

8: Wait a while, then turn it On again normally, and it should now have the error cleared.
