PIXMA TS6420a doesn't recognize cassette printing from computer but does for copy and mobile print

Recently, I started having the problem where i receive a 1000 error code when printing from my Mac.  It says I need to add paper to the rear cassette, although there is paper in the main cassette.  I am able to use the copy feature and it prints fine.  I also was able to print from my mobile device.  I downloaded the most recent firmware and still receive the issue.

Understanding Error Code 1000 on PIXMA TS6420a

Error code 1000 on the PIXMA TS6420a typically indicates a communication issue between the printer and the Mac. This can happen due to various reasons, especially when printing from a Mac.

Common Causes

  • Driver Issues: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed for your PIXMA TS6420a. Outdated or incompatible drivers can lead to errors.

  • Connection Problems: Check the connection between your printer and Mac. If using a USB connection, ensure the cable is secure. For network connections, confirm that both devices are on the same network.

  • Printer Settings: Sometimes, incorrect printer settings can cause errors. Verify that the correct printer is selected in your print dialog.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Restart Devices: Turn off both your printer and Mac, then turn them back on. This can resolve temporary communication issues.

  2. Update Drivers: Visit the Canon website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

  3. Check Printer Queue: Open the printer queue on your Mac. If there are any paused jobs, resume them or clear the queue.

  4. Re-add Printer: Remove the printer from your Mac's printer list and add it again. This can refresh the connection.

  5. Test with Another App: Try printing from a different application to see if the issue persists. If it works in one app but not another, the problem may be app-specific.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the error code 1000 when printing from your Mac. If the problem continues, consider reaching out to Canon support for further assistance.
