PIXMA TR8620a - printing double-sided when I don't want it to

I have a Canon TR8620a printer on my home wifi network. It keeps printing duplex / double-sided, even when the option to do so is turned off in the printing dialogue box. I'm about ready to lose my mind. Please help. Details:

Printer - Canon TR8620a. Firmware is 1.062 (this is the latest update, according to the printer).

Computer - Macbook Pro M1 running Sequoia 15.1.1.

I connect to my printer using the built-in Mac software ("Canon TR8600 series-AirPrint", Driver version 4.0).

When I try to print using Preview (the Mac app for PDFs) or Microsoft Word, I open the print dialogue window. I have a preset for "1-sided, black and white, draft" to print a multi-page document on one side of the paper in black and white in draft quality. The "Double-sided" option is set to "Off." When I print using this preset, the multi-page document comes out double-sided, even though the option is off.

Interestingly, if I turn the double-sided option to "on" and then back to "off," it will print correctly (which defeats the purpose of the preset).

Is this an issue with the Canon, or an issue with the Mac presets?

Welcome.

Did you save your preset? I created a preset based on your description with a name "Forum Test". When I exited the program and reselected my preset double sided was still off.

I noticed that preview has a built-in preset for Blac and White - Draft. It has double sided selected.

Double check you are selecting the correct preset.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the preset is saved. The issue I'm having is that even when the option to print double-sided is off, it still prints double-sided.

I have a preset for "2-sided, black and white, draft quality," and I will select that preset (which moves the double-sided indicator to "on"), then I will re-select the "1-sided, black and white, draft quality" preset to watch the double-sided indicator move to "off," then print. According to the preset options, it should not print double-sided, but it still does.

I don't get that behavior. Maybe try reinstalling the driver. Or give Canon a call at 1-800-OK-CANON.
