PIXMA MX882 take out ink "5B00 error"

The ink absorber is full. I have decided to recycle this printer but need to take the print cartridges out first. Platen will not go back to neutral position in order to take out ink. It also says printer error 5B00. I just want to take the ink out and be done with it. Anybody have a trick to make this happen? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MX882 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
