Hi pierce_932002,
Because performing multiple printhead cleanings did not get your PIXMA G1220 to print correctly, the next step would be to perform an ink flush. To do this, please use the appropriate link below. Once that page loads, please scroll down the page to the Ink Flush section:
G1020 series > Maintenance > Performing Maintenance Functions from Your Computer (Windows)
G1020 series > Maintenance > Performing Maintenance Functions from Your Computer (macOS)
If the nozzle check prints correctly, but text prints double or has a line through it, please clean the encoder inside of your PIXMA G1220 by following the steps in this article:
Canon Knowledgebase Article - Cleaning the Encoder (Timing) Strip - G1220
If your PIXMA G1220 still does not print correctly, your PIXMA G1220 may require service. G1220 has no way of doing maintentance on apple computer. I got 150 prints out of it before simple maintenance could not be performed. (hours on the tech support wasted)

Since you cannot do it from your Mac, your alternative is to do maintenance from the printer control panel.
To perform maintenance on your Canon PIXMA G1220 directly from the printer control panel, follow these steps:
Power On the Printer: Ensure the printer is turned on and ready.
Navigate to Maintenance Menu:
The following maintenance functions can typically be accessed:
| Function | Description |
|---|---|
| Cleaning Print Heads | Cleans the print heads to prevent clogs. |
| Align Print Heads | Aligns the print heads for optimal print quality. |
| Nozzle Check | Prints a test pattern to check for clogged nozzles. |
| Cleaning Paper Feed Rollers | Cleans the rollers to ensure proper paper feeding. |
Regular maintenance helps keep your Canon PIXMA G1220 functioning well. Use the control panel to access these features easily and ensure high-quality prints.

If your PIXMA 61220 won't print after replacing the maintenance cartridge, ensure that the cartridge is installed correctly and that any protective tape has been removed. You may also need to reset the printer or check for any error messages that could indicate other issues.
Protective Film Not Removed: Ensure that any protective tape or film on the new maintenance cartridge has been removed before installation.
Incorrect Installation: Check that the maintenance cartridge is installed correctly and fully clicked into place.
Cartridge Recognition Issues: Sometimes, the printer may not recognize a new cartridge. Try removing and reinstalling the cartridge to see if it resolves the issue.
Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can help reset the internal memory.
Check for Error Messages: Look for any error messages on the printer display that might indicate what the issue is.
Clean the Contacts: If the printer still does not recognize the cartridge, clean the metal contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Run Maintenance Cycles: Use the printer's maintenance settings to run cleaning cycles. This can help if the print heads are clogged.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider contacting Canon support or a professional printer repair service for further assistance.
