Multiple drivers for one printer -- Devices and Printers shows only one

I have a Canon MX870 printer that I'm using under Windows 7 Professional.

Several months ago I asked for help with a driver problem. I needed to define two devices that print to the MX870 with different printer properties, and I couldn't do so. When I defined the second device, the first one was deleted. The driver would accommodate only one MX870 device at a time.

I was advised to use Canon's MP printer driver instead of Microsoft's driver. I have installed the Canon driver now, and it works, but not quite as it should.

I can define two devices that use the MX870 printer. Both appear in the Print dialog's list of devices. However, only the last-defined device appears in the "Devices and Printers" window. Thus I can't change the other device's name or default properties or control its print queue.

Please help me get this driver set up so that it gives me full access to both of my MX870 devices.
