Getting error message 1411 when trying to print. I have rebooted printer, reseated printer head and changed cartridges. How do I know if it is the printer head or something else? Don't want to spend $200 on new head if it is something else. Thanks for any ideas and help

Hi Peppercatt,
The 1411 error is an indication that one of the ink tanks inserted into your PIXMA MX922 is not recognized.
Please open the cover to your printer with your PIXMA MX922 powered on.
The ink carriage will move to the middle.
Please verify (from left to right) that the following ink tanks are installed:
CLI-251M magenta
CLI-251BK black
CLI-251Y yellow
PGI-250BK black
CLI-251C cyan
Please make sure that you are using genuine Canon ink tanks and that you are using CLI-251 / PGI-250 and not other ink tanks and that each ink tanks' light is illuminated. For example, 271 or 281 ink tanks are not compatible.

I appreciate your reply but since the error occurred without me having changed the ink cartridges, I do not see how the printer would all of the sudden not recognize one of the cartridges. Also, I did replace all the ink after getting the error code but the code did not go away. I have always used off-brand cartridges so I do not see why I would need to start buying canon....although I am sure Canon would disagree; they want the money. So my question was how would I know if the printer head is malfunctioning? Is there a test other than buying a new one and replacing it?

The 1411 error is related to the ink tanks, not the printhead:
There is no other test. It is recommended that the ink tanks are replaced with genuine Canon ink tanks. If the 1411 error persists, your PIXMA MX922 would require service, as your printer is not detecting that the ink tank(s) are installed.
If your PIXMA MX922 was purchased less than a year ago, please contact one of Canon's Technical Support Representatives via phone or chat to obtain your in warranty options. To contact a Technical Support Representative, please use the link below:

If your PIXMA MX922 is out of warranty, you are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system.
