MX870 no longer sending faxes

The fax functionality had been working fine until recently.  Every time I try to send a fax, I can hear the dial tone and the intended recipient fax line pick up, however, the connection is never made (the "handshake" is not accepted).  Transmission report comes back with "NG" code.  I've reviewed fax and device settings and am at a loss to know how to resolve.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello.

 

Does this issue occur with any party that you send faxes to or only a certain number?  If this occurs with any fax, try using a new phone cord to see if this helps with the connection.
