MP280 vs MG2929

DBalaur

I found an MP280 that my roommate left in the storeroom while cleaning up for moving. The MG2929 is the main one that we have been using for years. I intend to keep only one of them and sell the other one.

My roommate does not remember much of it - he never actually use it, and information regarding Canon printer models on the web has always been quite generic. From what I could gather, they are both all-in-one models suitable for home use, although the MP280 is a bit bigger and have more buttons. Can anyone with more experience and knowledge about the vast Canon printer lineup help me compare the pros and cons of these two models?

Hi, DBalaur!  Both of the printers in your possession are older models which we have retired and one of the things that affects is driver and software development.  The PIXMA MG2900 series, which came out in 2014, was retired in 2022 while the PIXMA MP280, which came out in 2010, was retired in 2020.  This means that the software available for the PIXMA MG2900 series will be closer to the present day by two years and thus has a better chance on working on your computer here in 2023, though we can't fully ensure compatibility.

If you run into problems using either of your printers, you can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

Hi Danny.
Thank you for your reply. The MG2900 series has been serving me well since 2017 and has not run into any compatibility model so far. My question was more about whether there were any supposed functional differences between the two series, such as in capabilities or intended usage?
