PIXMA MX882 printer. I print nearly always in grayscale, but the yellow cartridge empties quickest, then another color. But the large black cartridge hardly ever needs changing. Anyway I can specifically set printer to use that large one?
Thanks, Terri

Hi Terribell,
There is a common misconception that "grayscale" is the same as "black and white." Grayscale uses a mix of the color inks to duplicate up to 256 varieties of gray, while the black ink is only ever black.
Your PIXMA MX882 is smart enough to distinguish between images and text. If you do not use the grayscale setting, text will always be printed using the black ink tank, and overall ink usage should stabilize.
