IX7000 - new ink cartridge installed and printer will not recognize -

We have replaced the matte black cartridge in our Pixma IX7000 using Canon cartridges. The old cartridge does the slow blinking light that shows it is out.  When we winstall the new ones no light comes on like for the other cartridges. We have tried 2 "NEW"  cartridges.  suggestions?

Once I was able to sit down at  co-workers computer and printer realised he picked up the wrong Black cartridge.  Should be phot black and he had Matte Black.
