Hi Mutantmike,

The less you use the printer the more likely it is for the printer to get clogged with dried ink.  With the print nozzles getting smaller and smaller it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep the print head from getting clogged/damaged.  We have built into the printer a routine maintenance that it performs every 36 hours as long as the unit remains on at all times.  Also if you have the unit plugged into a power switch and turn it off through the power strip, this leaves the print head uncapped and can cause the exposure to the air to quicken the clogging process.

Would printing a test color page daily keep the heads in better shape?

I do print about 5-10 color 8x10 pictures weekly but sometimes I go 5-6 days without printing color at all, should I go out of my way to do color daily for the print head longevity?

You are welcome.

It is not necessarry to go out of your way to do a daily color print.  If you are printing weekly that should be fine.  Ensure if you decide to power the unit off that you do so with the power switch on the printer instead of a power switch etc.  If the print quality begins to look bad you would just need to perform a print head cleaning to unclog the nozzles and prevent damage to the print head.
