Canon Pixma MG6450 scanner not working when one ink tank empty (COVID19 aggravated failure)

Hi,

 

I have a Canon Pixma MG6450 multifunction, and ONE ink tank (magenta) is empty. Due to COVID lockdown,

it is hard to order, and actually, not sure whether i have a larger failure...

 

I have two problems:

 

1 - The printer does not accept any command (froze) or connection from a PC. The scanner is not working, when the function (this is a MULTI function thing) does not need ink! I find this very strange and hope this is not a feature?

 

2- Even considering printing, I should be able to print exclusive B&W (tanks full).

 

Any help here?

ah, OK tks for the heads-up. If anyway this has ever happened with some 6400 series product sold in US, I'll be thankful for receiving a pointer.
