Cannon PIXMA430 lousy set up - how do you switch (toggle) between letter & numbers on setup

Why Cannon does not provide a complete manual so you can troubleshoot and set up the printer properly is beyond me 

Very disappointed with this! .

Then is you manage to find a telephone number  and call support and they are useless.   My response to my question

Oh that's hardware we can't help you .  Even when  all you need is a simple question answered.

Come on Cannon   -don't you guys get it!

Sorry you've had difficulty setting up your PIXMA MX430.  To switch between character and number input modes, please press the Tone (*) button.  Hope this helps!
