The shortcomings of Image.Canon

This doesn't apply to just Point and Shoot cameras, but the Canon doesn't have a category for commenting about Image.Canon (hmmmm... why not?).

If you've seen my other posts about the shortcomings of the ELPH 360 HS A, you know I've raised criticism about the camera itself, but that criticism now expands to where  the photos themselves automatically download (because you don't have a choice in the matter, at least wirelessly).   Here's  the [...]:  Unless you are choosing to download all the photos ("select all"), you have to click on each photo individually in order to download the photos.   Really, Canon?   What if you have a hundred photos to download - you never heard of keyboard shortcuts that allow you to click on one thing, go to the last item, and click again to select all?  Just another non-feather in Canon's cap.

Greetings,

Haven't tried the image.canon app myself.  Does this work for adding comments.

That's not really the issue - this is just about the mechanism for downloading images to, say, your computer from image.canon.   With the "new, improved" ELPH 360 HS A (there's sarcasm there), you can't wirelessly download directly to your computer anymore, unlike the 360 HS which, unfortunately, was replaced with the "A" version after it was damaged in a fall.    It's all just so much less simple than ever, if anyone's noticed other than me.   Now it's to the cloud, and then back to your "device" (computer, in my case).  It takes more time and work.

I have never really used image.canon either. The selection behavior you described requires the use of a cursor control, which smartphones don’t have. They use gestures, instead.  That’s built into the OS, not the apps.

Appreciate the suggestion - and I understand that this would otherwise be cursor controlled, but there's something in the Image.Canon webpage that will not let you use those cursor controls as you would expect.   If you have an Image.Canon account with photos, you will likely see what I mean:  Select "download" at the upper right, which then applies selection boxes in each photo.  If you select the first photo and go to the end of your photo selection and select, you cannot do the usual "shift-click" to select them all.  It just doesn't work.   You have to individually click on each photo, which can become quite tedious if you're talking dozens or scores of photos.   I'll wager this is a problem with the webpage, not my keyboard.

Are using a Windows computer. What happens if you select the first one, and type Ctrl-A? Select all?

Well, I tried that just to be sure I wasn't missing anything, and unfortunately that selects everything on the page more as a "copy" function than as a "I'd like to download these pictures" function.   Normal keyboard commands do not work on this page as far as selecting photos to download - only what Canon has provided, which is a "select all" button.   Very user-unfriendly, in my humble opinion.    They're not thinking, "What would our customers like and need?"

I suggest contacting Canon.

They've heard from me several times over the past six weeks over the shortcomings of the ELPH 360 HS A - so I'll continue to make them unhappy.
