Photo storage recommendations: Images lost after Photoshop Elements upgrade

Hello friends. I have used adobe photoshop elements for years to download and process canon camera photos. I upgrade element to 2024 and I have lost thousands of pictures for the year 2024. Tech support is not able to fix the problem. I still have several pictures on the SD card. Can you recommend another software where I can safely store what is left. I will be very grateful for the advice.

Hi Daljit and welcome to the forum:

For a start we need to know what operating system  you are using and what version.

Normally, to find your files on your had disc, you go to the root directory of the drive where  your files are stored and do a search for *.JPG files (for Jpeg files), or *.CR? (for RAW files).  That should located any files you have stored there.  Once the files are listed you can select to copy or move them (copy is safer) to whatever device or location you want.

Well if the copy command is used as per my post, there is no removal of the original files - it's non-destructive.

You don't need any software to safely store your photos. You just copy your collection to other media from where it is now. This could be an external hard drive, CD,s DVDs, in the "cloud", flash drives, etc. Preferably to multiple places.
