I have an EOS R6 Mark II. I’ve been using the remote control app successfully on my iPhone 11. I just upgraded to an iPhone 16 w/ OS 18.1. The correct phone information appears on the Bluetooth screen and Bluetooth is activated, but I keep getting prompted that I'm disconnected. I’ve reconnected a number of times to no avail.
I finally got to a “Preparing” message after much work but the screen is just spinning. Then I get a message that it won’t connect and to check the camera’s Bluetooth settings which are fine. Bluetooth is on and my camera is named on the Bluetooth screen.
Is this an iPhone 16 or OS 18.1 issue? What do I do?
Thanks.

Greetings, I would recommend resetting the network settings (might be called Communication Settings) on the R6 Mark II and then perform repairing with the new iOS device.

Rick:
I reset the CS as you suggested and then reenabled the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings on the camera. The camera name/model appear on the app perfectly but I'm still unable to re-pair. The app apparently still can’t detect the camera. I even re-registered the camera with no effect.
What else might it be? And is there another way to remotely control the shutter than via the app?
Thanks.

When the camera appears in the app on the iPhone, what is the camera displaying. I suspect that you need to accept and confirm the connection on both devices.

Pressing the Shutter most likely aborts the connection process. The Shutter seems to take priority over everything.

Nothing. It offers troubleshooting tips.
The screen says, "Reconnect". When I press "Bluetooth". I press the shutter to make sure the camera is "on" and nothing happens. My only option is "Troubleshooting."

Hey Guys,
Nothing has changed. My camera name appears across the screen but I cannot "Reconnect." On my camera menu under "GPS Device Settings/Select GPS device/GPS receiver, the "Smartphone" option is greyed out. This indicates to me that my camera is not syncing up with the app on my iPhone 16 because it's not "seeing" the app. Why, I have no idea. It worked great on my iPhone 11.

Disclaimer: I'm not a tech
I've had many phones over the years, and many cameras. When you get a new iPhone, your settings are usually transferred from the old phone to the new phone. This includes your WiFi and Bluetooth settings. The phone may think it has an existing connection to the camera, when it doesn't, so you'll want to double-check your Bluetooth devices on your phone *and* on the camera, and make sure you have no iPhones listed on the camera, and no Canon cameras listed on your iPhone. Remembering the settings is super convenient for Apple devices (like Airpods), but for other things, it can be kind of cumbersome.
THIS PAGE has screenshots of what it looks like on the camera.

Hey Stephen,
I don’t have anything about my camera listed on my iPhone’s Bluetooth. I just received a BR-E1 remote control and that connected via Bluetooth perfectly to my Canon.
When I go through the screens on the help page that you linked to, it gives me steps to connect my smartphone which I didn’t have to do before to link my iPhone 11 and camera. If I select that option and then “Add device to connect to” I get a message telling me that I have to disconnect from my BR-E1 to link to an iPhone, which I don’t want to do. I just paired the remote up, so I know that the remote wasn’t in the way before. But I need both connected, the app for GPS and the remote for handless operation. Can I not have both connected at the same time? So this camera can’t connect to multiple Bluetooth devices? It does say “Add” devices” which implies multiple.
What am I missing?
Thanks
