Does EOS R7 need Sigma firmware to support Sigma 10-18mm lens?

Hello,

I have a Canon R7 and bought a sigma 10-18mm 1:2.8 DC DN067 lens.  (RF mount)

The Canon firmware vesion that I have is 1.7.1

Do I need a sigma firmware applied to my camera to support the sigma lens ? If yes, do I need Sigma USB Dock?

Thanks in advance

ArunB

Greetings,

The Sigma 10-18 contemporary for Canon RF is licensed by Canon for Sigma.  Its an APS-C lens and will work on your R7 natively.

10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | LENSES | Sigma

Because its a licensed product, its firmware can be updated just like a Canon lens connected to your R7 body.  You do not need the dock.  😉

I suggest you use update your body (R7) to v1.7.1 FW.  Most current as of this post if not already done.

Canon Support for EOS R7 | Canon U.S.A., Inc.

With the lens attached to the body, you can see the FW version it has (just like a Canon lens).

The lens was released 9/2024

Sigma released a new FW for the lens 12/2024 v1.0.1

You should upgrade it if your lens has an earlier FW

10-18mm F2.8 DC DN (Canon RF Mount) | Contemporary | Firmware Download | SUPPORT | Sigma

Note, the upgrade process for the Sigma lens works like a FW upgrade for a Canon lens.  Except the firmware file is .AFU not .FIR.

"...  do I need Sigma USB Dock?"

Perhaps you don't need the dock to remedy this issue but I would still buy the dock if your lens can use it and particularly if you intend on buying more Sigma lenses. The dock doesn't cost that much to not get it.
