CameraWindow not opening to load new pics to ZoomBrowser

I've had Zoombrowser running on an old XP desktop for 10 years. Plugging in SX130 IS thru USB would retrieve newest pics and load them in zoombrowser. This stopped functioning a month ago,,, "camerawindow has encountered a problem and needs to close". I tried reloading CW from both the CD and from Canon website but no resolution. Is there any harm with deleting all the Canon software and reloading from CD? Will it recognize all the existing zoombrowser content automatically or is there more entailed? On the same note, i have a windows 7 laptop that i'm having some issues with. If my first option has problems, could i instead load the software from CD (or newer versions from website), copy My Pictures from XP machine to flash drive, and restore that to my pics on laptop? I'd prefer to leave pics on XP for now as it has better monitor and i hope to replace the laptop in near future. Thanks

I was hoping for a response as i have quite a few recent pics sitting on my camera that i'd like to safely store on XP machine with Zoombrowser. I lost the formatting in my original post. What i'm asking is can i safely delete all the Canon software on XP machine, restore same from the original CD, and have it still recognize and manage the 10 years of pictures currently being managed. This seems simple in theory, but i want it confirmed in case i might screw things up.
