Lanc Controller for R8

Can you use a VariZoom Lanc controller for an R8? I want to use this camera, but I need a Hands free option as I will be filming from a Tree Stand.

I believe that controller needs a dedicated port on the camera. 

You would need to check the camera manual, but I have never seen a primary stills Canon camera that has that port.
