I recently purchased the EOS R50 Creator Kit, which includes the DM-E100 microphone. After mounting the mic to the hotshoe and connecting it to the 3.5mm input, I followed standard troubleshooting by switching the Sound Recording to "Manual."
I tested the Rec. Level across the entire spectrum, from lowest to highest. However, even in a perfectly quiet room, I am consistently getting heavy static. If I raise the gain, the speech is audible but drowned out by loud noise; if I lower it, the static persists while the speech becomes too quiet to use. The audio quality is so poor that it cannot be salvaged in post-production.
As a comparison, I recorded simultaneous audio with an iPhone 13 Pro Max. The iPhone audio is clean and free of static, which is disappointing given that the DM-E100 is a dedicated external microphone. I have explored all available menu settings and found no solution.
Things I already checked without success:
Is it possible I have a defective unit, or is there a specific setting I am overlooking?

Is your phone near the camera?

Thanks! No, I stay away from all electronics. Any other tips?
