Hello kbrown921,
You can easily take photos with your camcorder. Open the LCD panel to turn on the camcorder and slide the lens cover switch down. Then set the camcorder to Auto mode and then touch [Photo] to take a photo.
This will allow you to capture photos. A green light on screen and the indicator light will let you know when the image has been saved.
