LEGRIA HF R57 Error trying to download movie to PC

Hello

I have a Canon Legria HF R57 and I am trying to download a movie to my Win 10 PC.

I am getting an error that the camcorder is not connected to the PC. The battery is charged in the camcorder and attached to the PC via the USB cable.

The camcorder is not plugged into the mains. Does it need to be even though the battery is charged?

Are the videos stored on the camcorders internal memory or an SD card?  Are you using Transfer Utility LE (for AVCHD files) or ImageBrowser EX (for mp4 files) to try to import the video files?  Pages 101 through 104 of the user manual may help determine why it is not connecting.
