Hey there!
I've got a Canon 5DmIV that I'm shooting with these days and I've got a Canon 580EX II for my complementary speedlite.
I'm having some issues with my flash, and it's only been used maybe 5 or 6x...
Right now, I'm able to control all of the various functions and settings, but, I'm unable to actually fire the pilot light to test anything, and when actually utilizing the flash function with the camera's shutter button, nothing is produced.
Now, I will say that I'm aware of the bottom footplate being somewhat of a pain after some research, but, I'm not even seeing the lighting symbol appear on my 5D when it says "Busy" when I press the shutter button.
So, is a setting wrong on my 5D, or is my speedlite broken?
I've been researching for a few hours now, this post comes after checking into various setting combinations, so most of the rookie hiccups are addressed, but... I could use the insight!
Thanks and appreciate the feedback!

Does the pilot light/test flash button cause a flash when the flash is off the camera? If not, the flash is defective.

That was my fear. It doesn't produce a flash at all, even unmounted.
Yay for Facebook buys. Thank you for the confirmation.
