The 580EX II is better flash than the 430 EX II.
- high guide number
- can act as a master flash
- has multi (stroboscopic) mode
- and one thing not listed in the specs, the 580EX head can rotate 360o where the 480EX can only rotate 270o
If the 580EX is the mark II (580EX II) and is in excellent condition, includes the case, cold shoe and documentation, I'd go for the 580 over the 430. The extra power benefit would probably be reason enough.
