After the Christian Conquista, the former minaret of the Aljama was converted into a bell tower.  It was in use until 1589 when an earthquake affected its structure, and the decision was made to build a new tower which enveloped part of the Caliphate remains.  At 54 meters, it is the tallest building in the city.
